Ever since I watched a cooking show, I was always fascinated by how chefs prepare food in a multitude of ways. One thing that really caught my attention was an episode wherein lamb was cooked in a traditional Middle Eastern way. After prepping the lamb, a pit was dug and fire was created. Enough room was made to keep feeding the fire with logs. On top of the fire was large grill. I thought the lamb would be grilled. To my surprise, they placed smooth oval stones on top of the grill. When the stones were hot, they removed some of it and placed the lamb on top before covering it with more hot stones.
They kept the fire really going but most of the flames were blocked by the stones. My reaction was WOW! because it never crossed my mind that this can be done. The lamb was removed after what they claimed to be a few hours and it was all juicy and tender. It was like pressure cooked! Such simple wonders nature and a bit of thinking can do. The chef went on a simple but not too brief explanation on how the lamb got cooked. He also explained how the hot stones worked in cooking the lamb and how it helped seal in the flavors.
I was on this state of amazement when I decided to visit a newly opened spa. I love going to spas every once in a while to pamper and relax myself. I am used to body scrubs, facials, foot massages, and a variety of whole body massages. The place offered a warm welcome to its customer although not that majestic. It was simple but cozy. I was browsing through their array of services when the words hot stones caught my eye. I didn t bother checking out what it s called. I immediately went for it. It started of with me being soaked at a tub full of warm water and different petals. I was then scrubbed not with a sponge but with grainy type of stone.
It wasn t painful since the stone is generally smooth. It just had enough roughness on it to peel away whatever grime or dead skin that it reaches. After this, I was towel dried and asked to lie flat on my stomach. The attendant was tracing my spine from my nape to the top of my derriere. She said You ll love our hot stone therapy. It s one of a kind! My mind was already drifting to sleep. She placed warm stones at certain points on my spine. She rolled or pressed the stones from time to time. Then she alternated it with colder stones. She did this all over the different parts of my body.
The effect was pure bliss. I came out of the spa feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. It was more than what I expected. The experience was so satisfying that I had made it a point to always indulge myself with this kind of pampering every now and then. And as it cleanses away every bit of life s pressure, I could say nothing more.
