However, when something needs to be done in the truck, like changing tires perhaps, the toolbox could not be taken out of the truck. Thus, the driver or mechanic will have to go back and forth to the toolbox to get the items he needs for his work.
In contrast, a removable truck toolbox is handier as one could bring the whole toolbox down to the work area when necessary. Then he could easily store it away again to his truck bed after use.
Modern truck toolboxes are made of sturdy and durable materials like metals and hard plastic to withstand the roughness of outdoors. It protects the tools from the changing weathers and from accumulating too much dust that could be very damaging.
