Jhansi City is one of the 17 districts of Bundelkhand region. To protect and preserve the tribal traditions, the city government has developed several landmarks not only to attract tourists but also to implement goals for livelihood to the local residents.
Jhansi city is one of the mirrors of Bundelkhand culture. The creation of parks and dams to improve reforestation in the Bundelkhand region is a vision to improve livelihood in the place. The vegetation and agriculture sector is still one of the major sources of income particularly among tribal communities. Here are some of the best landmarks developed by the city.
Siddheshwar Mandir temple is temple built by Servants of Nation Society. Pandit Raghunath is the one who led the construction of the temple. It is located near GIC inter college.
Parichna Dam is around 25 km from Jhansi to National Highway 25. It was built over Betwa River excellent for water sports and adventures.
Sukma Dukma Dam is around 45 kms from Jhansi adjacent to Babina town.It was built over Betwa River.
Mala Tila Dam is located in between small hills about 55 kms south of Jhansi City. It was built in 1958 with 35 m height and maximum storage of 132 Mcm. It features a botanical garden ideal for picnic spots.
Rani Laxmi Park is located near Government Museum where Rani Lakshmi Bait statue is placed. Handicraft fairs and other competitions are held here also.
Narayan Bagh is also known as Government Gardens. It features various species of flowers, plants and old trees. This is also where the government organizes an annual show of vegetables, fruits and flowers in February. There are also garden competitions and exhibitions held here.
Nehru Park is located in Spiri Bazaar. Jhansi Development Authority maintains it. It features a fountain in the middle so one can feel refreshed at the park.
Madhav National Park is a park with a big beautiful man made lake. It occupies 156 sq kms of total area in Shivpuri district. The lake is called Chandpata. The park is a sight of deer, antelopes, monkeys, bears and leopards. The best time to visit the place is during October to February.
Public Park is the biggest public garden in Sadar Bazaar at the cantonment area. The Sadar bazaar is a place where tourists can find theatre, bakeshops, restaurants, hotels and other shops.
Indraprastha Park is a park occupying 34 hectares of total area along Ring Road. Initially the site was a sanitary landfill place converted to a green landmark. It features several gardens like foliage, fragrant, bougainville and topiary. Adding to the beauty of the place is a sight of Delhi monuments.
To protect their culture and promote their agricultural products worldwide, the city organizes festivals and events annually. The city also celebrates festival to honor their courageous heroine Queen Rani Lakshmi Bai. The festival celebrated is the Jhansi Mahotsava. It is a one week festival celebrated every end of February to start of March.
There are dance and music performances showcasing Bundelkhand culture. Audience gets to enjoy alha songs, suata and rai dance. Other highlights include a handicraft fair and food festival. The competitions are specifically held in an auditorium near archaeological museum. Meanwhile, the handicraft fair is held in Rani Lakshmi Park.
Another event is the State Vegetables and Flowers Exhibit. It is a 3 day event held in the month of February. It is an exhibition of various kinds of vegetables, fruits and flowers. It is specifically held in Narayan Bagh State Gardens. The most popular competition is the home garden category. The mini fair is open to public for free. The highlight of the fair is the dog show. It showcases different breed of dogs.
