The premier amount of breathing space would be; about the width of the middle finger for the front and the width of the pinky finger in the back.
Make sure that you also that your baby tries on both shoes, as one foot is actually larger than the other, and then let him or her walk around the store for a few minutes watching intently for any signs of discomfort.
