When you hear the adjective ‘polyglot’ describing someone, it is most likely for you to think that the person is a sheer genius, since he may have the ability to speak in 6 7 languages or more. However, you will be astonished to know that being a ‘polyglot’ has become very common these days and is very much under your ‘reach’. As per definition, you can call a person ‘polyglot’ if he or she can speak 3 languages or go beyond that number. Learning 3 languages isn’t that difficult, since 1 is your native language and the rest 2 languages can be learnt in a matter of some years. However, being a ‘polyglot’ in the true sense would mean that the person should be well versed with at least more than 3 languages. There are some general rules that are employed in languages of a larger area, for instance, languages spoken in the Unites States share most of its grammar with languages that are spoken in Europe. You can find these similarities even in some of the Asian languages. You have to grasp the basic concepts and rules that form the basis of any language. Once you learn the grammar or the common rules, then it is only a matter of practice to accumulate the vocabulary of that language. Once you learn these techniques to grasp the common rules of related languages, it becomes easier to learn more and the path of becoming a polyglot becomes shorter.
