They may not look like beauty queens or underwear models, but Italians make sure they always look their best. In Italy, this is referred to as fare la bella figura – presenting a beautiful figure, always putting your best foot forward.
The first step in creating la bella figura is to make sure you are a healthy weight. You don’t have to be super thin or fit, but you should definitely not be overweight. If you are, start developing some healthy habits in how you eat and how you move your body (daily walk, etc) and see if the weight starts to come off. In weight loss, slow and steady seems to be the successful method. If you need outside help, seek it until you are a healthy weight for your frame.
The second step is grooming. Make sure you are always freshly showered and that your hair, skin, teeth and nails are always clean. Use deodorants, floss, do all the things your mother told you growing up. Keep your hair neatly trimmed, whether it falls to your shoulder or whether you have a shaved head.
Next, you don’t have to have designer clothes, but make sure whatever you are wearing fits you perfectly. Spend the extra money to have your clothing tailored to fit you like a dream. If you don’t have a large budget then buy a few high quality items that are the nicest you can afford. When shopping, it helps to ask a salespersons advice on what looks best on you.
Once you have some super flattering clothes, pamper them. Keep them looking impeccable. Keep your shoes shined, keep your clothes clean and pressed. Don’t throw them on the floor when you walk in the door – hang them up.
Once you have created an attractive appearance, look at your behavior. Cultivate and perfect your manners. Don’t fart or burp in public. Hold the door for others. Be courteous and respectful of those around you. Do all the things your mother taught you growing up. Creating la bella figura is not just about how you look it is about how you act.
One aspect that combines both how you look and how you act is your body language. Learn about body language. Learn how to walk, sit and stand in a way that conveys confidence and openness. Good posture can also visually make you appear as if you have lost 15 pounds. It automatically makes you appear more confident and attractive.
The last part of creating la bella figura has to do with what makes you interesting. You can’t present a la bella figura if you are a dud who has no interests or passions. Make sure you take time to engage in hobbies and interests. Having interests makes you interesting and helps polish your image.
If you pay attention to these tips, you will inevitably have la bella figura in all that you do.
