Kitchen DIY is almost certainly one of the most terrifying prospects for many people, and for many who enter the domain of kitchen DIY with confidence, such confidence is often short lived.

The problem is that the kitchen is quite unlike any other room in the house in terms of almost every aspect. From the plumbing to the lighting, from the gas to the units, from storage to lighting, flooring to choosing materials which will withstand the rigours of the domestic kitchen and the thousand and one things that will be thrown, or at least spilt, in their direction, the kitchen offers more pitfalls and traps than anywhere else in the home.

The kitchen is a veritable war zone, and it's important to make sure that work undertaken in this room is done so with understanding, not guesswork. When you are combining the heat of an oven with the heat of a tumble drier, the proximity of water pipes and electricity, gas pipes and drills, the potential for problems is far more wide ranging than in any other room.

Although bathrooms involve thinking about the combination of plumbing and electricity, it's only in the kitchen that this is then combined with gas, as well as far more units, storage, furniture, lighting, and over a bigger space.

Kitchen incorporate so much, from storage units to appliances such as washing machines, tumble driers, dishwashers, fridge freezers, cookers and ovens, and a whole range of lighting options.

Not only that, but the whole layout has to work smoothly, since you need your kitchen to be set out in such a way that you're not constantly having to jog from the microwave to the cooker or from the oven to the work surface carrying hot, heavy pots and pans.

So if you know you need kitchen advice, you've already taken the first brave and crucial step into the world of kitchen DIY. It's often those who don't even think they need to seek help who end up regretting it later.

By looking for kitchen DIY advice you will be better armed, better prepared and better supported, But it's all very well agreeing that finding professional, reliable kitchen advice is admirable, but where exactly do you go for such advice? After all, if you head to your local DIY store, or the retailer who sold you a particular appliance, their advice is likely to be limited either to a specific appliance, or a limited range.

It's astonishing just how unique some queries are, and how specific the kitchen advice is that you need. Sometimes you find yourself staring at a problem, and contemplating highly improbable solutions. Either that, or you've approached a problem a traditional way, but discovered an unexpected issue that must have been experienced by others - but how do you find such people, and more to the point, get in touch with them to find out how they solved the problem?

One of the major benefits of the past few years has been the development and expansion of the web, and today there are tens of thousands of websites and online articles offering all sorts of kitchen advice.

A quick search on Google or any other search engine will produce millions of results offering kitchen DIY advice to help in almost any problem. Just searching for 'kitchen advice' alone produces almost a billion results! Except, of course, the one specific problem you're currently facing.

The issue then being that you've probably pulled out half the kitchen, dismantled the rest, your electric cables and gas pipes are jutting out into the middle of the room and the family is kicking up a fuss because until you get it all fixed no one's eating anything.

The best place of all to head in order to get kitchen advice for any kitchen DIY project is a kitchen forum. But beware - not all kitchen DIY forums are going to prove to be as reliable as you need.

The most recommended solution is to use a kitchen DIY forum which forms a part of a kitchen supplier or kitchen fitter's website, where you'll be able to make direct contact with the professional kitchen suppliers online, and with many hundreds of other people - either home kitchen DIY enthusiasts, or professional kitchen fitters, who will be able to offer advice and suggestions for your specific problem. You never know, once you've been through the experience yourself and survived, it, you may find yourself able to offer the benefit of your experience to others on the forum too.
