It is but natural for nerves to be shaking on a first date. Prior to that there is the concern of where to go, what to do, what to talk about and even what to wear. You even think or wonder about how you'll like your date and on whether your date will like you as well. Here are some tried and tested strategies to make any date experience a successful one.
A first date is one of the deciding factors on whether you want to go for a second one because you like and enjoy the other person's company or probably feel a strong connection. So for a first date you would want one that encourages a lot of time for some conversation and private talk as you want to get to know more about a person. Watching a movie or a play that doesn't give both you and your date that much time to talk should best be avoided for first dates.
A first date would be more enjoyable and comfortable for both of you if you were to tailor it according to a common hobby or interest that you and your date share to help both of you feel at ease while at the same time establishing some connection.
If a meal is planned for your first date, lunch would be ideal and combining it with a prior fun activity can give you lots of topics for conversation over the meal. While dinner is also perfectly fine, it implies a more intimate type of meal. For two strangers, creating a conversation or trying to initiate talk can be such pressure.
If the whole idea of just the two of you can be too nerve-wracking, you can always go on a group date at first to help you feel at ease that is if it is perfectly okay with your date. Or you can for dates that involve group activities like maybe taking beginner dance lessons with a group or going for some wine tasting activity, whatever suits you and your date.
Going on a first date can be with a total stranger so safety should be of concern. It is best to meet or have dates in public places and to always inform a friend of who you are meeting and your whereabouts.
In any date always keep your mind open and aim to have a great time. Even if your date doesn't turn out to be what you expected it to be, be glad that you got to know someone new. Who knows, that person may in the future turn out to be one good friend even you don't want to be romantically involved with him or her.
