To make entertainment worth its name and worthy of remembrance, we have to be selective in what we want. When amusement loses its value to people today, we can easily trace this to the early upbringing in life. Take note that what we learn as children, we easily transpose them to our later lives. Take the following recommendations to make the entertainment chosen for your children worth remembering.
There are diverse interests in various forms of entertainment and you kids can choose any. But make sure you supervise them. Do your kids find pleasure in any sport of their choice? This is nothing wrong with this. Sport per se is something worth recommending. But your kids must enjoy healthful recreational sporting activities. These have their places in the development of every young child. It helps them to develop physical coordination, flexibility, muscle tone and strength. Also, it can refresh them mentally especially if they spend most of their time on studies. It becomes memorable in this case. What is bad in sport is when it takes away the joy of what had been a fun to the game, for example, when our children suffer from permanent physical impairments, due to sports engagements. It is easy for a child to come home with a broken limb or some irreparable physical damage. This stems from the fact that our children have imbued into themselves that dangerous notion of intense competitiveness; they must win their opponents at all cost.
Beside the sport itself, the association to which playing organized sports may expose our children to may be so dangerous. When our kids mixed with other kids who have no reverence for moral values, their moral principle also get damaged. So sport for our kids must be balanced with strict supervision from parents and guardians. We must not allow then to dominate their lives to overshadow the leisure in them and remove the joy and satisfaction that is long remembered.
Another item is movies and TV for kids. The demands of our world have made many programmes exploded with stories of adultery, fornication, violence and general criminality. Take note that the mind eats through the eyes and ears and our kids are what they feed their minds with. The more they are exposed to these, the more they become part and parcel of them. Come to think of it; how did the adulterers, fornicators and murderers come to be that way? Was it not due to their constant association with others who were that way? Never have the notion that your child is above corruption.
To make entertainment worth remembering for our children, it should never be centered on breaking of laws and moral values. If you exclude all programmes that have this nature, you may be excluding them from everything. There are still lots of thing that these kids can freely and wholeheartedly do. Thus as co-creators, we must be co-educators. Select the type of leisure that leaves your kids fresh and not finished after doing it. Do not just kill the time, but put some life into that free time of theirs, that will bring enjoyment, something that they will one day look back as wroth remembering.
