Everybody loves to play the game of tennis, but not everybody knows the rules for playing the game. Other than seeing a game of tennis being played on television, some people have no idea about how the game of tennis is played. They do know that there are coaches that are willing to teach people how to play tennis and many parents will take their children to a tennis center to learn the game.

The coaches are primarily centered on teaching children to play the game of tennis but there are some that will devote a considerable amount of time to teaching an adult to play the game of tennis. Some tennis centers might not have spare rackets for an adult to use, so most adults will buy what they need and show up at the tennis center ready and willing to learn.

The first thing that the coaches will teach children about tennis is the equipment that they will need to have on hand to play a game. The children are taught that they will need a set of tennis balls, a racket, a court, and a friend to play against. After each item has been thoroughly explained and demonstrated, the children will be ready to move onto the next step and find out how it feels to step out on the tennis court and face their opponent.

The coach will probably explain the fundamentals of playing tennis by telling new students what the objectives of tennis are. They will explain in vivid detail that the object of the game of tennis is for one person to hit the ball over the net into their opponent's court without letting the ball hit the ground in the process. The children will learn the importance of getting the ball in the right place so that it will not allow the other team to score a point.

After the children have learned the basic rules of the game tennis, it is time for the coach to actually teach them how to play the game with some hands on action. Teaching children to serve the ball over the net may take a considerable amount of time, especially if one of the team member's does not thoroughly understand all of the concepts involved in serving the ball over the net.

One of these children is bound to get frustrated and want to give up but the coach is experienced and can usually coach them into giving it another try. A few adjustments might be necessary to correct the problem such as the way the racket is being held, or the manner in which the ball is readied for a serve. The stance of the child might be the only thing that is keeping them from serving the ball over the net.

The first few games of tennis practice will allow children to get comfortable with all of the rules and the equipment that they recently learned to hold. It will not be long before they have enough experience under their belt to hit the ball over the net with no errors in presentation. Some coaches will allow new students to play several practice games before playing their first real game of tennis. Through these practice sessions, the children will learn how the scores are tallied and where the ball must go and can go, on every serve of the game.
