Telecommunication companies provide communication all over the world through network. Without them, communication from distant places would be impossible. Business transactions and personal communications would be hampered. The four biggest Telecom Companies in the US performed a crucial role in the history of providing telecom services. The four influential mobile phone providers in the United States includes Verizon Wireless, AT & T, Sprint Nextel and T Mobile

The four biggest Telecom Companies in the United States played a very big part in the history of providing telecom services. Each of them has their own account of beginning. The four influential mobile phone providers in the United States are:
•Verizon Wireless
•AT & T
•Sprint Nextel
•T Mobile

AT & T
AT & T Incorporated is Southwestern Bell Corporation in 1983. It is the first biggest among the four leading companies in telecom services and included in the seven companies of Regional Bell Operating Companies. The company originated in St. Louis, Missouri. The name Southwestern Bell Corporation was changed to SBC Communications, Inc. in 1995.

AT & T serves:
•long distance
•local telephone services
•Wireless connections and
•DSL Internet connection

SBC get hold of the following sister companies in 1997:
•Pacific Telesis that serves California and Nevada
•SNET or Southern New England Telephone

Changes in the organization happened in October 1999 after GTE bought American Wireless. It was made to convince Federal and State regulators. SBC Communication was penalized by FCC for not complying with agreements to get merger approval. SBC stop marketing their other companies in 2002. It gives different names on its different companies based on the state where it was located. AT & T planned to relocate in Texas and they announced it June 2008.

Verizon Wireless
The second among the biggest mobile phone service providers in the U.S. is Verizon Wireless. It has more than 68 million users with $43.9 billion yearly revenues. Verizon is also known as Cellco Partnership. It is a partnership between Vodafone and Verizon Communications. The company acquired Alltel Wireless in June 2008. Verizon Wireless comes from:
•NYNEX Mobile Communications
•Bell Atlantic Mobile
•PrimeCo Communications
•AirTouch Communications and
•GTE Mobilnet

In 1995, Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile was created. NYNEX and Bell Atlantic merged together. It was then named Bell Atlantic Mobile. Vodafone Group combined with AirTouch Communications in 1999 and thus created the Vodafone Air Touch Plc. Later, it joined Bell Atlantic Corporation which is then called Verizon Wireless. It started its operation in April 2000. The combining of GTE Wireless with Bell Atlantic formed the Verizon Communication in June 2000. It grew to be the biggest wireless communication provider. In February of 2008, Verizon Wireless gives unlimited minutes of talk plans.

Verizon comes from two words, Veritas meaning truth and Horizon. The word created an image of:
•assurance
•dependability
•limitless possibilities and
•direction

Sprint Nextel Corporation
Sprint Nextel Corporation was then Sprint Corporation. It is a telecommunications company that holds and controls the third largest wireless communication network. It is headquartered in Kansas and founded in 1899. Its founders were George Andrew Lita, Rosemarie Casuncad, and Cleyson Leroy Brown. It was named Brown Telephone Company before in Abilene, Kansas. It was a challenger of Bell System as Landline Telephone Company.

The name was changed to:
•United Utilities in 1938 and
•United Telecommunications in 1972

It operated many other businesses and purchased ISACOMM in 1981. By acquiring it, it gained the long distance voice market. It also purchased U.S. Telephone in 1984. The following year, it offers wireless service through Sprint PCS. It was the first PCS based wireless network in the U.S. A merger between MCI World Com and Sprint happened in 1999 and would have been the largest merger with its $129 billion agreement. But the deal did not pursue because of pressures from U.S. Department of Justice and European Union. New York Stock Exchange absorbed PCS in 2004.

T Mobile
The fourth biggest mobile service provider is the T Mobile. The company was from Germany and belongs to Deutsche Telekom. T Mobile created its history in European countries. It has more than a hundred million subscribers all over the world.

T Mobile Standing:
•6th biggest mobile provider in the world
•3rd biggest multinational company after Vodafone and Telefonica
•4th biggest in America
