As you go about credit repair you are bound to come across instances where you need documentation of what you have done. Without having details of what you have accomplished, it is difficult to know where to go from there. There are several ways to keep track.

1. You can keep a record of all the conversations you have with creditors or credit reporting agencies. These records should include the time and date of the conversation, as well as to whom you were speaking. You need to write down their position in the company. Everything that is discussed should become a part of this credit repair document, including any final decisions.

2. Make copies of every letter you send. When you get a final decision over the phone, you will want to back that decision up with a letter confirming the information that was agreed upon during the call. Make a copy of the letter for your credit repair files.

3. Send everything by certified or registered mail. You need to know if and when the creditor or credit bureau got your letter. You also need proof that they did get it. If you keep return receipts along with the letters you have sent, you can show a clear path from your desk to the office of the creditor or bureau. This might be very important down the road during your credit repair.

4. Keep all the correspondence you receive. A creditor may make you an offer to remove an item off your credit report. You will want to save that letter in case this does not come to pass. If a credit bureau gives a reason why your item cannot be removed, you will also want to keep this correspondence so that you will know what is not working for your credit repair.

5. Organize all your documentation. You will have tons of paperwork if you have very much credit repair to do. It is important to put it into an easily accessible form. File folders make one good choice. Another system is to scan everything into your computer and keep it on a memory stick. You would not want to rely on keeping it directly on your computer, in case it crashed.

6. Keep a calendar. You will have certain dates coming up at different times that are important to fixing your credit. There might be a particular date when a creditor has promised to get in touch with you, or when they are required to get back with you about an issue. Without a calendar, these days can slip by and you would miss out on credit repair opportunities.

7. Do not negotiate with creditors online. This may not seem like a part of credit repair record keeping. However, documentation is the key reason you should deal by phone or by written correspondence. You will be left with little proof if you get a creditor to agree to something online. There will be no easy record of the exchange.

In order to make progress with credit repair, you will need to hang onto every bit of progress you make. The only way to do that is to keep good records of everything you do during the process of fixing your credit. Otherwise, you are just spinning your wheels.
