Pools and Indianapolis Real Estate

Something that many first time home owners look for when shopping for Indianapolis real estate is the option of a pool. Pools are beautiful and can add atmosphere and class to your home, however something many shoppers in the Indianapolis market have noticed is a severe lack of pools in backyards. Let’s explore why this is, and what options are available for you concerning pools.

First off, the Indianapolis real estate market is lacking when it comes to in ground pools. Despite the constant blaring of TV advertisements in central Indiana about purchasing pools for your property, many Indianapolis buyers quickly learn that due to the water table on the north side of town in ground pools are nearly impossible to put in. While this isn’t as much of a concern on the south side, many of the upscale neighborhoods in Indianapolis and the surrounding areas are on the north end of town. This means that those that can afford pools generally go without.

That’s not to say you can’t have a pool. Indianapolis real estate may be geographically against in ground pools, but with proper insulation and protection surrounding your pool many homeowners go for the short term and decide to put a pool in no matter what the quality of the ground. Still, these pools tend to need major maintenance every year, and may prove to be more trouble than they are worth.

Above ground pools are the way to go when shopping for Indianapolis real estate. Above ground pools are not universally possible, as you need a certain amount of room to make them feasible. First measure your property and make sure your pool won’t be too near any power lines, trees or other property. Once you have a solid and level piece of land, look into purchasing an appropriate sized pool

When installing an above ground pool, on thing to consider when examining your Indianapolis real estate is the amount of space around the pool as well. Many above ground pools will require ample room for supports or struts to keep the sides of the pool in place. Consider the weight of the water contained within the pool and you’ll quickly see the need for the supports to have all the help they can get.

Also, you will need to consider a power source for your pool. All pools have filters, and those filters have to run on something. To keep your Indianapolis real estate from sporting a scum pond in the backyard, run a power cable out to your pool and make sure your filter is changed often. Also, make sure you know when to shut it off for the winter so it doesn’t jam or break in the cold. On top of that, you may also need to look into a specialized cover for your pool to keep it safe.

Pools can be a wonderful thing to have, but they can also have a significant impact on the room and quality of your Indianapolis real estate. Keep in mind these and other options when you shop for your pool, and remember, its’ your house, so get something that you feel good about living with.
